From Builder Basic to One-of-a-Kind

When the homeowners purchased their Lakeville home, they knew the unfinished basement represented an opportunity.

The upper levels had the clean, functional look common in many newer builder homes. For the basement, they wanted something different. Something much more personal and more reflective of how they wanted to entertain and spend time with family and friends.

They turned to Titus to help bring this creative, one-of-a-kind vision to life.

Beyond Builder Basic

From the beginning, the homeowners had a clear vision for how they wanted to use the space.

They knew they wanted:

  • A dedicated entertaining area
  • A bar with a fullsize fridge and integrated sink
  • A wine cellar with clear division from the rest of the space
  • A luxurious bathroom
  • A place to gather, relax, and enjoy.

While the overall layout remained largely consistent with their original goals, the design evolved through the selection of materials, finishes, and details that elevated the entire experience. Every decision was made with one objective in mind: creating a space that felt unique from the rest of the home, but that felt true to the homeowners.

Designed for Entertaining

At the heart of the basement is a spacious gathering area anchored by a dramatic fireplace feature wall and custom bar. Behind that space are a pool table, foosball, and basketball hoop with seating areas, so guests can play.

The open layout allows the various spaces to work together naturally, creating an environment equally suited for hosting guests, watching the game, or enjoying a quiet evening at home.

One of the standout features is the custom wine cellar. What could have become a purely functional storage area was transformed into a design centerpiece with glass and metal doors that keep the collection visible while helping the space feel open and connected.

The result is a lower level designed for entertaining without sacrificing comfort.

Details That Define the Space

Many of the most memorable features are found in the details.

Highlights include:

  • A dramatic fireplace wall with custom built-ins and layered textures
  • White oak accents and chevron detailing throughout the space
  • Custom bar cabinetry with beverage storage and display areas
  • Glass and metal wine cellar doors that create a striking focal point
  • Carefully selected stain colors and finishes that add warmth and character
  • A luxurious bathroom featuring a walk-in shower, floating-style vanity, and brass fixtures
  • Layered materials and textures that create depth without overwhelming the space

Even elements that could have become visually dominant, such as soffits and structural requirements, were thoughtfully integrated into the overall design so they support the space rather than distract from it.

A Retreat Built Around Their Lifestyle

This project was never simply about finishing an unfinished basement for a family. It was about transforming the basement into a space that feels distinctly their own.

The result is a basement that feels every bit as intentional as the rest of the home, while bringing a completely different character and personality to the space. The design offers a place for entertaining, relaxing, and enjoying the details that make this house feel like home.
